Josef Albers
1888 Bottrop – 1976 New Haven, Connecticut
Josef Albers was a German-born American artist and educator who is considered one of the most influential 20th-century art teachers in the United States.
"Nur der Schein trügt nicht." Josef Albers
Albers experimented with colors, shapes, lines, surfaces and their interactions with cognitive and subjective visual perception.
Like Piet Mondrian, he had a major influence on the development of American painting. His work is considered concrete art - with his geometric-optical illusions alongside that of Victor Vasarely, he was one of the pioneers of Op Art and with his famous Homage to the Square to the Hard Edge.
