Cyrus Overbeck
1970 Duisburg
Cyrus Overbeck spent his childhood as the son of his Iranian father and his German mother, who came from a Jewish family, in Tehran until 1979. In 1986 he set up his first studio in Duisburg in the disused Overbeck bread factory, which had been founded by his great-grandfather. In 1989 he obtained his high school diploma in Duisburg. From 1990 to 1995 he completed a teaching degree in secondary education. Since 1995 Cyrus Overbeck has been working freelance in his studio, the "Alte Brotfabrik" in Duisburg-Beeck. After 1999 Overbeck shifted his center of life several times. Overbeck sees himself as a narrative realist who, as an artist, tells of what he sees and experiences and expresses what he experiences "in wood, in bronze, in oil, on canvas, metal and on stone." He has occasionally been characterized as a "philosopher among painters."
