Bengt Karl Erik Lindström
1925 Berg Municipality - 2008 Sundsvall

Bengt Lindström was one of Sweden's most famous contemporary artists with a distinctive style of bold colors, often with distorted faces. He had two children, Mariana and Alexandre. In 2003 Lindström suffered a stroke and was no longer able to paint. In 2004, a film about Bengt Lindström's life was released, "Lindström - Le Diable de la Couleur et de la Forme" | "Lindström – A Hell of a Feeling for Colour and Form".

Lindström was influenced by the ethnic traditions of the Nordic world and Sami culture, and often based his works on them. He was also influenced by the paintings of the COBRA group, which was active at the time Bengt was studying in Copenhagen. COBRA was represented in Copenhagen by Asger Jorn and also included the famous artist Karel Appel, artists who were about 10 years older than Lindström. Unlike the COBRA group, Lindström used his paint by the bucket, applying mainly saturated primary and secondary colors and using both his fingers and large brushes.

".. I work with extremely pure and intense colors. When I put them next to each other, I often have the impression that they have 'no soul', isn't that so? something too decorative. So red against green, against blue can create harmonies that must not become too beautiful or too pleasant. No, something more must be added to the work, it must have a soul, yes, a soul that can be felt to be moved." Bengt Lindström
