Angelika Bartel-Muhlack

The Painter, graphic and object artist Angelika Bartel-Muhlack studied free graphics at the Muthesius College of Applied Arts in Kiel from 1958 to 1963. She then worked as a freelance painter in Paris for four years. Following study trips to the Near East, Egypt, Southern Europe and Mexico, she now lives and works in Lübeck and Andalusia.
Starting off from basic forms Bartel-Muhlack works with the four elements, with movement and with light, a feature that is of growing importance in her work. Since 1970 she has been working intensively with the material Plexiglas, which enables her to use the refraction of light to generate three-dimensional light and shade effects, as well as creating the optical illusion of a movement. In her watercolours, too, the artist works with movement, light and matter.
Her work has been earning international acclaim as well. In 1975 she was awarded the Garnd Prix International in Juan-les-Pins and in 1978 the Prix de I'llustration in Lyon. In 1979 the Spanish Bureau of Culture presented her work in the oldest royal palace in Granada. There have been further shows of her work in Paris, Stuttgart, Cologne, Göttingen, Bern, Hamburg, Granada, Lübeck, Kiel, Travemünde and Basel as well as regular group exhibitions both inside and outside Germany.
This work comes out of a special edition "Artist of the world” from Meissner Edition, Hamburg created for the German Lufthansa Airline in year 1985 and their first class passengers.
